the story of my life.

whoaa there's a new option in youtube that allows you to watch the videos in high quality. that's awesome.

i'm back home again, but i go back to school in less than a week. do i want to go back? yes, because i'll be away from my parents nagging and i miss all my friends. but so many people are gone this semester =(

i enjoyed the past few weeks in harvard/boston. it was a really good experience for me. the night of the olympics ceremonies, me and tara went to get shaved ice. it started thunderstorming and we ended up walking in the opposite direction of the bus stop so we took a taxi. the driver was from haiti and someone we started talking about french. he was really happy to find that i can speak it. he wanted my number so that we can talk occasionally. this way, i won't forget my french and can learn new vocabulary. im sure he had the best interests and wanted to help me, but it's weird giving my number to strangers. so once again, i gave him a fake number. oops.

i was in harvard square the other day waiting for their famous unofficial tour to start. standing next to me was this guy who kept smiling at me. i thought he was just being nice so i smiled back. then he came up to me and apologized because he thought i was someone he knew. but he didn't stop there. he continued to talk about something but i couldn't quite understand him because he had an accent. he said he was from the sloan management school in MIT. i don't know what he does there. he insisted on giving me his phone number. then he asked for mine! again, i didn't catch why. so i gave him a false number. hehehe im so sneaky :) before he left, he said that he'll definitely give me a call. i wonder if the number i gave him actually works...

so more about harvard. i learned quite a bit about this prestigious school on the tour and all i have to say is that they are ridiculous.

1. harvard is the second richest instituion in the world. the first being the roman catholic church.
2. for only $35 a semester, students can rent real artworks from the fogg museum to display in their room. imagine having a real monet or picasso hanging in your very own dorm room. insaneee. the catch of course is that you cannot have parties in your room. if you break it, you buy it. so the question is of course, would you rather show your friends a famous piece of artwork or your ability to throw one heck of a party?

i believe that every girl/woman should have a pair of black stiletto pumps. they're a staple to any closet because they are so versatile. they can be worn with any outfit. i currently have a pair of bcbgirl pumps and i love them. they are so comfortable that i can stand in them all day or dance in them all night without leaving my feet in complete pain. but i've had them for a few years now and i don't know how much longer they'll last them. i was browsing the web at work today (once again, me=bad employee) and found this pair:

christian louboutin piaf point-toe pumps $540

they are so beautiful, i want them. however, i don't know how i feel about spending $500+ on a pair of shoes. for bags, i can understand. shoes just get ruined so easily. i will have to think some more about this. until then, i'm going to rely on my bcbgirl pair and hope that they will last for a few more years.

lucy liu is in this month's harper's bazaar with an olympic themed photo shoot. im not a big fan of hers but surprisingly, she looks really good in some of these pictures. maybe its because i like the clothes. this one picture caught my eye:

it's christian lacroix haute couture! this dress was one of my favorites out of his spring/summer 08 collection. i still can't believe that i got to touch and see this dress in person.

here are my other favorites:
im supposed to write a report for work except im just sitting in front of the computer. ive been sitting here for quite some time now. my parents always tell me that i have no motivation or ambition in life. sadly im starting to believe that. why can't i force myself to start what im supposed? i always think to myself that im gonna prove my parents wrong someday. just because i don't say anything to them doesn't mean that i don't have plans for my future. but im doubting myself more and more nowadays. its quite disappointing.

on a happier note, i got my first paycheck today! it's quite a large sum =D i should treat myself to something nice. i always tell myself that once i make money, i'll be able to buy anything i want, without the interference of my parents. but once i actually earn the money and put it into my bank account, i don't want to spend it anymore. haha oh dear.

as part of my program here in paris, we have these cultural and business visits. today we visited christian lacroix. for those of you who haven't heard of him, he's a really famous french haute couture designer. we didn't just go into a boutique, it was the headquarters. his spring/summer 2008 collection was displayed in the foyer. we got to look at them closely, touch them, examine the details, and of course take pictures. it was amazing. then we got a tour of the atelier upstairs where the seamstresses hand sew the clothes. they are currently working on the fall/winter 2008 collection which is debuting in 3 weeks. so we got a sneak peek! it was very exciting.

from the spring/summer 2008 collection, these were my favorites:

here's the rest of the collection, which i got to see up close.

i've been around most of paris already. i might possibly know it better than washington, dc. it really is a lovely city.

i had hoped that after i finally told him, i would feel closure. why do i feel like anything but? what is this hold he has over me? this is getting ridiculous. maybe some fresh parisian air will get him out of my mind.

A Poem Dedicated to the last 150 years of this planet.

By a Silent, Silent Chinese.

When we were called the Sick Man of Asia, we were the Yellow Peril.
When we are billed to be the next Superpower, we are a threat.

When we closed our doors, you smuggled drugs to our markets.
When we embraced Free Trade, you blame us for taking away your jobs.

When we were falling apart, you marched in your troops and wanted your "fair share".
When we were putting the broken pieces together again, "Free Tibet" you scream, "it was an invasion!"

So, we tried communism, you hated us for being communists
When we embraced capitalism, you hate us for being capitalists.

When we have a billion people, you said we were destroying the planet.
When we tried limiting our numbers, you said it is human rights abuse.

When we were poor, you thought we were dogs.
When we loan you cash, you blame us for your debts.

When we build our industries, you called us polluters.
When we sell you goods, you blame us for global warming.

When we buy oil, you call that exploitation and genocide.
When you fight for oil, you call that liberation and democracy.

When we were lost in chaos and rampage, you wanted rule of law for us.
When we uphold law and order against violence, you call that violating human rights.

When we were silent, you said you want us to have free speech.
When we were silent no more, you say we are brainwashed racists.

Why do you hate us so much? We asked.
"No," you answered, "We don't hate You."

We don't hate you either,
But do you understand us?

"Of course we do," You said,
"We have NBC, CNN and BBCs…"

What do you really want from us?
Think hard first, then answer…

Because you only get so many chances,
Enough is enough, enough Hypocrisy for this one world.

We want one world, one dream, and peace on Earth.
This big blue Earth is big enough for all of Us.
